Today it calls for a celebration, you know?! After all, it is Sunday and the last of the month of May so let us see what it has for us: Geek Pride Day & Ian McKellens birthday!
***
How lucky does the world get to celebrate 2 wonderful things in the same day? Well here we are, on this very day 37 years ago the first Star Wars movie was released. But this celebration shares the same date as two other similar fan "holidays": Towel Day, for fans of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy trilogy by Douglas Adams, and the Glorious 25th of May for fans of Terry Pratchetts Discworld.

I remember being somewhere in 2nd or 3rd grade when my father first took me to the cinema to see the first Star Wars movie of the original series. I was in awe and I exited the room completely changed! Of course my father had seen those movies before but he had no indeea of how much this movie would be part of my life. I remember drawing on every piece of paper since then R2D2 and C3PO along with X-Wing Ships. It was either that or drawing Sailor Moon, so it was a balanced way of being ;) and come to think of it, SM could have been sci-fi as well if you think of the big picture...

How awesome can this man be?! His talent is limitless and off screen he is adorable as a teddy bear. His long lasting friendship with Patrick Steward - whom you certainly know from Star Trek as Captain Picard - is legendary and they are acting in plays and doing movies together as well - take for example the X-Men Series where he plays Magneto, the friend/arch enemy (complicated relationship) or Patrick who plays the one and only Charles Xavier ;) Should I mention that you should check out (frequently) their Twitter accounts as they love to post pictures of eachother when they are meeting out for a pint?! ;))) Or the fact that Ian officiated Patricks wedding ceremony? How cool is to have your best friend doing that? Oh... I wish them an everlasting friendship as they are 2 of the most talented actors you can lay eyes upon :)

How about you? Are you going to celebrate Geek Pride Day and relate with your inner geek? :)
